Course Information:

Lifeguard Training
Hours: 31 hours
Content: This course will teach potential lifeguards the skills and knowledge to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This is an entry-level pool lifeguarding class. Includes First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Certification: Pass a written exam with 80% minimum in each of the four sections, demonstrate competency in all critical skills, successfully complete three final skills scenarios. Attendance is mandatory. Please be prepared to swim each day.
Prerequisites:
  • 15 years of age
  • The ability to swim 500 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order: front for 200 yards, breaststroke for 100 yards, either front crawl or breaststroke for 200 yards.
  • Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object held with both hands and with face above the water.

    CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
    Hours: 8 hours

    Includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer book, and pocket mask. Content: Recognizing and caring for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, children and infants; two rescuer CPR; use of a resuscitation mask (pocket mask), and bag-valve mask. Also familiarizes participants with the use of an Automated External Defibrillation device for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. This course is recommended for medical professionals, lifeguards, aerobics/fitness sports instructors and public and private safety security employees.

    Professional Rescuer CPR Challenge
    Hours:3 hours
    For individuals who wish to be re-certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Bring your pocket mask to the class. Purchase a pocket mask on site for $11. Content: Pass a written exam and successfully demonstrate proper rescue breathing; first aid for an obstructed airway and CPR; use of a pocket mask, bag-valve mask, and two rescuer CPR. Participants will be tested to the standards set by the ECC 2000 guidelines. All responsibility for preparedness for the challenge rests solely on the participant.

    Adult CPR/AED with Child and Infant CPR and First Aid
    Hours: 9.25 hours
    Includes skills cards and participant's booklet.
    Content: CPR for adults, children and infants and first aid. Learn how to use of an automated external defibrillator for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. Meets OSHA requirements.

    Community Water Safety
    Hours: 5 hours
    Content: Stay safe in, on, and around the water. Take Community Water Safety! This exciting fact-filled course can help you stay safe when enjoying water sports. Community Water Safety teaches easy-to-remember safety tips for pools, spas, water parks, lakes, rivers, oceans, and many other popular aquatic environments. This course contains information on various aquatic environments, potential hazards and how to safely participate in aquatic activities.

    Water Safety Instructor
    Hours: 36 hours
    Content: Help people learn to be safe when they are in, on or around water. Learn how to teach swimming skills and knowledge in a logical progression for aquatic skill development. Prerequisites: 17 years old, current Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate, good (level 6) swimming skills and pass a pretest consisting of the written and water skills found in the Community Water Safety course.
